Glasgow Band, OneDay40 Joins Enigmar Entertainment
Edinburgh, 27 April 2008. Enigmar Entertainment Ltd., a London based company that also does business in Scotland, announce the signing of the critically acclaimed Glasgow based country music band OneDay40.
The Edinburgh based Head of Talent Relations, is enthusiastic about the newest band to be added to Enigmar's list of artists. According to LaBarbera 'We are really excited to sign our first Scottish band and we are over the moon that the band we signed is OneDay40. As the only Scottish based member of the company I am especially proud that we have begun to grow the Scottish side of the business.' LaBarbera is also producing and directing the music video for OneDay40's latest single, Doorway, soon to be released.
'OneDay40 play a genre of music that is most often associated with the southern part of the United States but this kind of music is not at all out of place in Scotland and indeed has its roots in Scottish music.' according to Michael Burhan Scott, the London based founder of Enigmar Entertainment.
About One Day 40
OneDay40 describe themselves as "Matchbox 20 versus the Eagles in a street fight" and are proud of their ability to write "superlative examples of multi-layered, wind-in-your-hair, big-chorused anthemic AOR" (Maverick Magazine).
A band that rose from the the ashes of UK country chart-toppers Evangeline, the four guys in OneDay40 have decades of music industry experience across a wide range of genres and have even taken their Scottish brand of Americana back to the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.
Their current album, "Unfinished Business", is full of "great tunes, inteligent lyrics, choruses you can sing, honest believable performances and above all, soul" (Maverick Magazine) and was recorded at the famous Park Lane Studios in Glasgow. Featuring guest appearances from the likes of Martin Kelly (Endrick Brothers), Tracey Braithwaite (KT Tunstall) and Zac Ware (The Proclaimers), the album also features a duet with legendary Glasgow diva Horse. Positively received by their chosen genre, John Beland (of the Flying Burrito Brothers) describes OneDay40 as a "damned good band".
"We're loving the music we're making at the moment" says Billy Matthews, bassist and songwriter with the band. "And," adds his songwriting partner John Naismith, (guitarist), "there are so many ways to get our music out nowadays that we've probably got as many fans in the US as we do in the UK!".
Note to editors : The name OneDay40 comes from the founders of the band being 364 days apart in age, and is also a pointed comment on the relative youth of much of today's music industry.
About Enigmar.
Enigmar Entertainment are a young company, part of the new technology revolution taking place in the music industry today. Enigmar distribute music for its signed artists via internet download stores, arrange performances, and produce videos for the artists.
'Enigmar, started life as a purely English based company 'but when we had the chance to bring Anne [LaBarbera] into the company we seized the opportunity to have a Scottish based company member. This way we are able to open up the business and make ourselves accessible to the wealth of talent that can be found north of the border.' – Michael Burhan Scott.
Enigmar have a unique way of operating. 'We get our artists uploaded on to internet stores, we promote them and we keep 20% of net sales. The artist keeps 80%. We don't do signing bonuses because we see this as ultimately not the best arrangement for the artist. The traditional signing bonus is just a loan that the artist has to pay back which he or she may or may not be able to do. With Enigmar, the money the artist receives is money he or she has earned outright.' – Michael Burhan Scott.
Enigmar is in the process of bringing on another company director, Erin Burns, who has a background in finance, photography, and in filmmaking. Burns will strengthen the company from both a business and creative perspective because Enigmar not only promote music but also produce films. 'We also make music videos at cost for the artists who sign with us so having another filmmaker on board won't hurt us at all.' according to Anne LaBarbera.
Enigmar are also in talks with another potential board member who would bring a wealth of contacts and business experience. The new member would take Anne LaBarbera's place as Head of Talent Relations and LaBarbera would take on a new role as Head of Film Development. 'Don't worry, I will still be very much involved with our music artists, especially those in Scotland and Northern England and I will still be making music videos for many of them.' says LaBarbera.
